Model for Flux Trapping and Shielding by Tubular Superconducting Samples in Transverse Fields*
نویسنده
چکیده
Experiments have been carried out on the flux trapping and shielding capabilities of tubular superconductors in transverse dipole and quadrupole fields. Field profile measurements are reported for tubes of vapor-deposited Nb,Sn and samples assembled from spirally wound strips of Nb-Ti/Cu sheet composite. The flux trapping and shielding process is modeled by assuming that critical state currents flow in saddle-shaped paths in the sample walls. Good correspondence between the experimental and model-generated field profiles is achieved. The model can be used in the design or analysis of flux trapping and shielding devices, or to obtain estimates of the average critical current density from measurements of the trapping or shielding ability of tubular samples. Flux Trapping and Shielding in Irreversible Superconductors*
Flux trapping and shielding experiments were carried out on Pb, Nb, Pb-Bi, Nb-Sn, and Nb-Ti samples of various shapes. Movable Hall probes were used to measure fields near or inside the samples as a function of position and of applied field. The trapping of transverse multipole magnetic fields in tubular samples was accomplished by cooling the samples in an applied field and then smoothly reduc...
متن کاملThree-dimensional calculations of the magnetic fields in a finite superconducting hollow cylinder in an applied axial magnetic field
In this study, a set of self-consistent coupled-integral equations for the local magnetic flux and current distributions in a finite superconducting hollow cylinder under an axial magnetic field has been directly derived by using the Biot-Savart law within the framework of the critical-state model. The equations were first solved numerically in the three-dimensional space before obtaining the h...

2014 Superconducting shields offer the possibility of obtaining truly zero magnetic fields due to the phenomenon of flux quantization. They also offer excellent shielding from external time varying fields. Various techniques of superconducting shielding will be surveyed and recent results discussed. متن کاملInfluence of microscopic defects in type-II superconducting thin films on the magnetic flux penetration
The magnetic flux penetration into thin type-II superconducting films with circular defects is investigated. The artificial circular defects ~diameter 540 mm) in an YBa2Cu3O72d thin film ~thickness '300 nm) were prepared by pulse-laser irradiation. The flux penetration into the zero-field-cooled superconducting film was visualized by means of the magneto-optic method. A stepwise increase of the...
